Sauvage Zoo of St-Félicien Saint-Félicien Wild Zoo news

I'm surprised the zoo had not reinforced the exhibit since they had an escape just last summer. Wolverines are notorious for being escape artists. An exhibit needs to be very specially designed with their power and intelligence in mind. A second escape in so little time really should force the zoo to examine if their exhibit is up to par.

Polar bear cub, Kinuk, will go on display for the first time May 12th. His little half brother will probably follow in a few weeks.

A porcupine was born.

Polar bear cub, Shouka, is now on display like his older brother Kinuk. Should be a fun summer at the zoo with two polar bear cubs rotating on exhibit with their mothers.

A number of projects are due to be completed this year at the zoo. First off there will be new grizzly and lynx exhibits. Then a new mountain goat, trumpeter swan and turkey exhibit. The wolverine habitat is being expanded. A brand new gift shop at the center of the zoo will open. And lastly the beavers are getting a new exhibit with an interpretive center. Sounds like a big year!

Red panda female, Malina, has passed at just 5 years old from cholecystitis with focal peritonitis and secondary sepsis. She died on the table before the surgery and again just after it started. They couldnt bring her back the second time. Her liver and gallbladder were to far gone.

The zoos focus has shifted to 13 year old Ralphie. They want to quickly find a new companion for him. They werent a breeding pair so another older female would be a good fit.

3 black bear cubs were born this winter and are now out and exploring their exhibit with mom.

A second litter of 2 black bear cubs has been born this year. A yearling orphaned black bear was also taken in by the zoo and released in with the rest of the bears.
