The giraffe exhibit has recently undergone renovation, now featuring access to live trees for browse, an enrichment tree, and a specially-designed chute for weighing, training, and performing veterinary procedures.

0.1 okapi born 5th January.

A female okapi calf named Mahameli (Swahili for “velvet”) was born to mom Manala and dad Akia on January 5. With a velvety dark striped coat, the okapi is one of the world's rarest animals in human care, with only 91 of these animals in 23 American zoos. Also known as the “forest giraffe,” the okapi is an animal so shy and secretive in the dense rainforests of the Democratic Republic of Congo that very little is known of its lifestyle in the wild, where its numbers are undetermined. Currently, the calf can be observed most days inside the Antelope House.
