Saint Louis Zoo Saint Louis Zoo News 2021

Just posted less than a couple hours ago on Twitter but it showcases the very first few primates to explore their new settings, reiterating the opening date of Primate Canopy Trails for July 12th :) the link is directed to a small clip of what looks like Colobus monkeys exploring their new home.

The first clip shows some sort of Langur (Francois'?). The second clip shows Colobus Monkeys and Allen's Swamp Monkeys.

Vaccinations for animals:

Saint Louis Zoo vaccinated male chimpanzee, more to be administered

A male chimpanzee at the Saint Louis Zoo was vaccinated Wednesday against COVID.

Jimiyu, 29, got his first dose of Zoetis’ COVID-19 vaccine “which has been authorized for use on animals on a case-by-case, experimental basis,” according to the zoo. The zoo said they do not expect Jimiyu to experience any “adverse side effects.”

The zoo plans to administer the two-dose COVID-19 vaccine in a staged roll-out to almost 100 primates, big cats, river otters, painted dogs and bat-eared foxes, all of which carry a potential risk of being infected by SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 disease.

The zoo announced today that 18 year old Amur Tiger Waldermere sadly passed away on December 5th to a brief but serious illness. They also announced that a rockhopper penguin named Enrique has also passed away

This leaves the zoo with one tiger remaining
