On my visit to the Zoo today I noticed a lot of changes. They are as follows:
-The Herpetarium appears to have reopened today, as it was closed when I arrived but open later. However, there is still maintenance going on in the Central Garden. The surrounding area on either side has been barricaded, blocking visitor access to the following species: tentacled snake, wampucrum, Andean marsupial frog, black-breasted leaf turtle, Chinese crocodile lizard, tokar habu, and Mount Bulgar viper. Of course, all the turtles in the central garden ponds are also not visible to visitors.
-There are two new species in the Herpetarium- puff adder and western bearded anole. They both have the standard Saint Louis Zoo style signage.
-Santa Catalina Island rattlesnake has been taken off exhibit.
-The boardwalk path around South Lake has been blocked off. This partially affects viewing for bar headed geese and American white pelicans, although there is still visitor access to other viewing areas for the lake.
-There's generally a lot of maintenance going on in the zoo at the moment (probably largely because of taking down Wild Lights decor). A lot of areas are blocked off, I've only specifically mentioned the parts that affect animal viewing.
-Somali wild ass are now in the yard next to addax instead of banteng. There still are bantengs in the next exhibit over though, mixed with sarus crane. The yard has been switching between the two species for the past few months.
-There's a new exhibit for Hawaiian red shrimp in the Insectarium at the end of the "Am I an Insect?" section. Its in a different style than the other tanks in the section and its a bit unique. I would post photos to the gallery but it was too busy to do so without getting people's reflections in the shot. I will try to another day, unless someone else beats me to it.
-There are two new urchins in the Venom section of the Insectarium, pincushion urchin and black long spined sea urchin. They are with the fire coral. However, I did not noticed the common clownfish from last time in this tank.
-There seems to be a couple other species of African flower beetles with the Derby's flower beetles in the Insectarium. None of the species are specifically signed (sign just says subfamily: Cetoniidae). One appears to be jade-headed buffalo beetle, the other Chlorocala africana, though I am less certain on the latter.
-Elephant Oasis construction has been finished.

A few notes from today's visit.
-Central American Boa has returned to the Herpetarium. This time, its in the lower level, in one of the Terrariums that also has top floor viewing. Its the former green anaconda exhibit.
-There was an unsigned wall gecko with the shingleback skinks (I believe its Tarentola gomerensis but I'm not certain.
-There seems to be some movement going on with red-billed blue magpies. They've moved into the former outdoor bateleur eagle aviary, leaving their previous aviary unoccupied. I also didn't see the one that's been with the helmeted curassows in there today.
-The Cypress Swamp (but not the Bird House or small walk-in aviary) is reopened. I did notice that I did not see white winged duck. I'm not sure if this means anything regarding its status in the collection.

I visited today for the first time in a while. I've been wanting to go but life's been getting in the way lately, and today's when I finally got a chance. It was good to be back. As always, I've got updates:
-The previously unoccupied large terrarium with upper floor viewing on the Herpetarium's lower floor is now occupied by pig-nosed turtles and red-bellied short necked turtles. The former has typical STL Zoo signage, the latter has makeshift signage, although this time it also includes the distribution and conservation status, so at least visitors are able to learn a little bit about the animal from it. It was a bit odd to me because this zoo has that species in other places, where it has typical signage. Maybe they ran out of signs for the species and haven't had the chance to make more, but I digress. Anyways, this means that all of the exhibits on the lower level are occupied, for the first time in a while now.
-Caucasus blunt-nosed viper and Mexican lance-headed rattlesnake are no longer on exhibit in the Herpetarium.
-Back to positives, the Herpetarium maintenance is finished.
-Coquerel's sifaka was not on display in the Primate House and the signage has been taken out. With Canopy Trails being there though I'm not too worried that this means the species isn't at the zoo anymore, just not in that one complex for the time being.
-After a visit of not noticing the red-billed blue magpies with the helmeted curassow, on this visit there were two in that aviary, and they are finally signed.
-The Cypress Swamp is now closed
-I didn't see Chlorocala africana in the African flower beetle exhibit. I think there was only one individual in there on the visit I noticed it, so I suppose its unsurprising.
-There's been some movement in the "Nature's Pest Control" section of the Insectatarium. Ferocious water bug has been replaced by an unspecified crayfish (signed as "order: Decapoda"). Also, the previously unoccupied exhibit in this section is now replaced by a burgundy goliath birdeater.
-The common clownfish is back in the fire coral/sea urchin exhibit.

Construction going on in Red Rocks has continued. There are new beams up around the entrance to the Antelope house. I have a sneaking suspicion that Giraffe Feeding might be in the zoo’s future. Looking at the small kiosk near the Banteng, it is likely not large enough to be a good stand and isn’t like similar small gift shops. If I were to guess, guests might be able to buy giraffe feed at this stand and then go across the way to feed them.

Some updates from today's visit. It was a short visit as I was mostly just there for a meeting, but I did notice a couple changes I wanted to note here:
-Main thing is the Bird House (but not the Cypress Swamp or small walkthrough aviary) has reopened, though I do not expect this to last too long.
-Toco toucan is temporarily off exhibit for renovations.
-Edward's pheasant is now in the mixed species exhibit with superb starling, white-throated ground dove and Saipan white-eye.
-White-cheeked bulbul is now mixed with one of the crested wood partridges.
-All signed species in the Herpetarium now have standard Saint Louis Zoo signage.
-Ocellate mountain viper and Caucasus blunt-nosed viper are back on exhibit in the Herpetarium.
-There's an unsigned prairie lizard in the "Missouri glades" terrarium, which also contains eastern collared lizard and three-toed box turtle.
-I never made it to the penguins but I noticed that I did not hear the Humboldt penguins at all today. It seems like they were off-exhibit today, but I never got the chance to come and verify. The zoo was certainly a lot quieter.

Apparently, sixteen-year-old Asian Elephant cow Jade (Raja x Rani) is sick. I have been looking at the elephant database for some information on some animals around the world. Today happens to be her birthday and I clicked on her page (it shows today's birthdays on the left side) and it said: 'Jade is a sick living female Asian Elephant at St. Louis Zoo in United States.'. elephant.se/database2.php?elephant_id=848

Read the rest of the page. They're referring to her having EEHV 15 years ago.

Some updates from today's visit
-Russet and Yukon, the pumas from the Elmwood Park Zoo are now on exhibit. They are in the mesh-topped enclosure closest to the lions. They are replacing Roxie the serval, who does not appear to be on exhibit at this zoo anymore. I am not sure if she is behind the scenes or just gone from this zoo altogether.
-Eastern screech owl is temporarily off exhibit in the Bird House for renovations.
-The Herpetarium was closed today for maintenance. The signage seemed to imply this is a short-term closure and I would be surprised if it lasts for more than a couple days.
-Scolopendra polymorpha, Microcentrum rhombifolium, and burgundy goliath birdeater were off exhibit for renovation in the Insectarium.
-There is an unspecified tailless whip scorpion (signed as order: Amblypygi) replacing spined micrathena in the Insectarium. I did not see it so I do not have any reference for more narrow identification.
-Turtles and water skaters are no longer signed at the Butterfly Wing pond, and I did not see them there. I wonder if the red-bellied short necked turtle that is mixed with the pig-nosed turtle in the Herpetarium has been moved there from the Butterfly Wing.

Some updates from today's visit:
-Unsurprisingly, the Herpetarium has reopened.
-Southern cantil and mandarin ratsnake are no longer on exhibit. No new additions this time.
-There's been some movement in the Bird House, and its something I think a lot of people will be happy about, including myself. The red-legged seriema has moved into the former toco toucan exhibit. This is exciting because it is a much larger exhibit than its previous one. I have seen that some people on here have rightfully expressed concern about the size of the previous exhibit for the species. Said previous exhibit is now an exhibit for spotted thick-knee. I assume that this spotted thick-knee was the same one in the exhibit next to the bateleur eagle, as that one is now unoccupied.
-The solo red-billed blue magpie has moved back into its former aviary, leaving the other one unoccupied.
-The small walk-in aviary and Cypress Swamp have reopened.
-Still no sign of white-winged duck in the Cypress Swamp. I did not see it on my recent visits when I peeked through from the outside either, but I wanted to wait until it reopened again to say anything because viewing was limited. I am going to assume the species is no longer exhibited here at this point.
-Seeing that animatronic dinosaur exhibits are not well-received by this community, I do not think many people on here will be happy to hear that I noticed a sign in front of the Dinoroarus that said it was "closed for the season", of course implying that it will be coming back.
-The Insectarium is closed for maintenance.
-There's a weird burlap fence around the Chinese goral/ Sichuan takin mixed yard. I have no idea what the functionality is supposed to be but I honestly hope it is temporarily because it is really ugly and is quite disruptive to the viewing experience.
-There is a shelter structure on the path into the antelope house by the giraffe mixed yard. I think the suspicions of giraffe feeding are coming true.

Temporary fencings like these are commonly used as visual barriers for new animals, either new to the zoo/exhibit or new offspring, to learn and be accustomed to where the barriers to the enclosure are and/or to get them accustomed to hearing and seeing the public. They are usually removed once the animals are well adjusted.

Ah ok. Makes sense given that they recently acquired another Chinese goral.
