San Diego research team to track and count vaquitas

San Diego ship to track rare vaquita porpoises | SanDiegoUnionTribune.com

This will be the third comprehensive survey of the vaquita population. It is currently estimated that there are fewer than 100 left. The survey will go from September 26 to December 3, and the results will be released in spring 2016.

I'm a bit nervous for the results of the survey, but three vaquitas surfaced early on, maybe that's a good sign.

At least some were spotted. Vaquitas have always been pretty elusive, so even a small-ish number of sightings could be a good sign. Though I am still nervous to see the final results...
