San Diego Zoo San Diego Zoo News 2012

Two clouded leopard cubs are in the Children's Zoo nursery.

Is it too much to hope that they will some day take up residence in the former Clouded Leopard exhibit in Monkey Trails?

Great News Betsy!!!!!!!!!!!! that just put a big smile on my face :) and btw did i ever tell you that your one lucky person to go to the san diego zoo all the time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes it is. The two males were born on August 25th, at the Nashville Zoo. They were hand raised and will be part of the "Back Stage Pass".

So they'll be in an exhibit that is way too small for them where the old cat cages used to be in Elephant Mesa. Lame.

Does the San Diego Zoo still have Storm storks. I guess they had the world first breeding with this species some years ago but afther that I never heared anything more about it.Any person which could provide information ???????

Yep, they still do. I think they are in the aviary in Tiger River. I think I have seen them at the park too.

Have any of the locals been recently and stayed into the evening for Jungle Bells? Unlike most zoos, which close and then reopen for their evening Christmas lights, San Diego stays open all day until 8pm. I wonder if all of the zoo is accessible (as it is during the summer evenings) or if most of the animal exhibits are closed at dusk?

I am playing with the idea (nothing definite) of heading out for New Years weekend. This information might help make my decision.

It'll probably be too late to be use to you, but I'll be down in SD in the next couple of days visiting family. I fully intended to check this out.

The website is, of course, less than helpful.

Most of the animals come inside for night. Some of the animals in cat canyon and some of the older exhibits stay outside though.

No kidding! I was there during Jungle Bells last year because of the behind the scenes animal tours. This year I can't tell if they have them again or not but it doesn't appear as though they do. Makes me glad I didn't schedule a trip there based on them having the tours last year...I almost did.

The new panda Xiao Liwu will be on exhibit every day from 9:30-11:30 starting Jan. 10.
