Thanks for the articles. Really excited for bridge and Africa Rocks. Both will join North and South zoo which are effectively two units.
Does the zoo still have Lion-tailed Macaques, or are they gone now?
They are behind the scenes currently. Red-cheeked gibbons now reside in their former enclosure.
While I'm sure it is capable of housing a breeding group, it was designed for, and probably will only be used by, elderly individuals.
The zoo has not posted any updates or photos/videos that I am aware of, and I don't think any members of this site have either.

No, I could not see that at all. This is a facility specifically designed for geriatric elephants.
The May 2017 ZOONOOZ magazine has some information on the Africa Rocks exhibit, with (some more) species shown on pages 10 and 11, notably more birds.

Thank you for sharing this; I very much like that ZooNooz is focussed on the zoos themselves - so many such publications seem to be almost embarrassed about the zoo from which they originate, and so, instead, are sort of general wildlife magazines instead.
On a connected note - a real frustration with San Diego is its membership policy. This summer I will be visiting for the first time, and am very excited to be doing so. I would like to take out a membership, partly to make things easier in California, partly to save money on multiple entry fees, partly to be able to receive hard copies of ZooNooz for a year, and partly to support the zoo. However, the cost of membership for a non-local is a rather enthusiastic $350, against $111 for locals. Clearly, the zoo's marketing team know more about such things than I do, but I find this baffling: as a non-local, my visits to the zoo will be fewer than they would be if I lived in Southern California, and thus the value I will gain from a membership is much less - while, conversely, the financial benefit to the zoo of my signing up for a membership would be all the greater. It's almost as if the zoo is deliberately trying to ration the numbers of members by setting unrealistically high prices.
I have a feeling that is what they are trying to do. I am only able to maintain my out of state membership because I got it years ago before they instituted this policy. I let it expire a couple years ago and had a small fight to renew it. I was told if I let it expire again I am out for good.
It opens June 10th.
Does anyone know when (and where from) the zoo acquired ringtailed possum? It seems they were on exhibit in 2015, but their exhibit is now gone due to Africa Rocks. I know by December they were breeding them with a breeding pair + 2 offspring, one of which I saw.
