San Diego Zoo San Diego Zoo News 2019

We have a new male Red Panda, Kola from the Cincinnati Zoo. He is alternating time on exhibit with the existing male Red Panda, Clark.

It also sounds like male Jaguar Guapo has left the Zoo pursuant to an SSP recommendation. I heard he was going to El Paso, but not from an official source.

A new Hamadryas Baboon baby was born in the early hours Friday morning to mom Tankara and first-time dad Arnold! The baby could already be seen out on exhibit with the rest of the troop that morning. I’ll upload a photo to the media section.

The new lions are 5-year-old siblings Ellen and Ernest from the SDZ Safari Park. They are two of four cubs born in a litter to the Park’s lions Izu and Oshana. That makes them niece and nephew of our beloved Zoo lions Etosha and the recently passed M’bari. Izu is Etosha’s brother, and Oshana was sister to M’bari.

Etosha has moved to the Park, and will hopefully be introduced into her brother Izu’s pride. For the time being, she is in an off exhibit area, but reports are that she is adjusting well so far.
