I just read about this specific turtle species and seeing how long it can take for them to be sexually mature. I hope to one day see the little ones :p

Hi all. I’ll be visiting the zoo tomorrow. What are the rarities to look out for & where can I find them?

I will be visiting soon, also, so this information would be helpful to others, too.

On a separate note, does the zoo breed black duikers and Siberian musk deer?

I know you already went, but in case you're able to go for a second time (its hard to see it all n one day), I figured I'd help you out. At the very least, it could help someone else out. This isn't my local zoo but I know of some of them. The main thing that stood out to me is there's an African darter in the Scripps Aviary. Possibly the last in captivity, but it seems like there's a place in South Africa that might also have them. Either way, its still really rare. Apart from that, I hastily compiled a list of species held by SDZ uncommon in the US. Note that I used the species holders lists available on this site, so it will not be comprehensive, as not all groups of animals have such lists. I also verified each animal with the latest SDZ species list. Italics indicate that the animal is in multiple areas of the zoo.

Based on the zoos map, it looks like the penguins have moved to Bear Canyon. Is this a bird flu precaution? I know one of the grottos is netted over so perhaps its a move to prevent close contact with wild birds. The flamingos are also no longer shown as being in the front habitat by the zoos entrance, just the netted exhibit near the back of the zoo.

Might be. I've noticed a lot of other suspiciously missing birds, like the Condors in Elephant Odyssey and the Eagles on Eagle Trail.
Unrelated, but it appears that the Giant Anteaters are in Urban Jungle.

Might well be, yeah. Particularly with the other absences noted.

I was there a few days ago for a few hours, the map appears correctly updated. The flamingos are in the waterfowl exhibit downhill from Northern Frontier. Although I didn’t get to see the penguins, one of the docents mentioned they had moved temporarily due to HPAI. Also, I didn’t see the giant anteaters in Urban Jungle during my visit but were still present by the Skyfari loading station :) As for any other closures that I saw: the cheetah exhibit in Urban Jungle, the black tailed prairie dogs at the Basecamp, and most of the raptors(excluding the Andean Condors) in the Raptor trail.
