Piece of January 2024 News Not Mentioned:

On January 27th, it was mentioned that the zoo will acquire a (1.0) slender-horned gazelle from The Living Desert in California sometime in 2024*.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On March 7th, it was announced that the zoo transferred a (1.0) peninsular pronghorn to the Los Angeles Zoo in California.

On March 13th, the zoo announced that a (0.0.1) Kirk's dik-dik named Abeba was born and is now on exhibit.

Spot the tiny dik-dik I think we can all agree that this is the cutest little dik-dik you ever did see. This wee one is Abeba, a new dik-dik calf born to parents Chloe and Shaggy. #Micro #DikDik #UnsolicitedDikDik #SanDiegoZoo | San Diego Zoo | San Diego Zoo · Original audio

Any idea on if the black duikers will return as well or is it likely they're gone for good?
The black duikers are all gone now. The last animals were sent to Micanopy when the hippo construction started. Other than the 1.1 + calf at Miami, Micanopy now holds all of the remaining reproductively viable black duiker in the country.

unless Miami's are bts, they no longer have them either, signage was removed for them in the okapi exhibit.

Based on them being bts at Miami and Micanopy as far as I know not being a public facility, does this mean there are no black duiker on public display anywhere in the country then?

That is correct — there are currently no black duiker on public display in the country. That might change once the new Cape vulture aviary opens at Los Angeles at the end of the month, as LA still has one elderly female that has historically been housed in the African roundhouse aviary that is not currently accessible due to the construction.

1.0 African bush elephant “Vus’musi” has been transferred from the Safari Park down to the Zoo, where he is now on exhibit in Elephant Odyssey
The announcement of his arrival has been announced publicly. The reason he moved to the zoo is because he was "told to leave" by Swazi, the Safari Park's matriarch elephant, so they decided to move Vus'Musi over to the zoo.
Meet our bachelor herd's newest member, Musi Vus’Musi (Musi), a twenty-year-old male African elephant, has started a new chapter at the Zoo, joining three other African elephants being cared for at Elephant Odyssey, including two younger males, Sundzu and Nipho, and a female named Shaba. Elephants are matriarchal (female-led) societies, meaning the ladies decide when males are accepted into the herd and when it’s time for them to go. For this reason, sub-adult male African elephants continuously move in and out of different groups throughout their lifetime, occasionally joining bachelor groups, or choosing to live independently. In Musi’s case, Swazi, the matriarch of the Safari Park herd, decided it was time for him to leave, but thankfully, the Zoo’s bachelor group was accepting new members. Musi’s move to the Zoo allows him key development opportunities to care for younger elephants. His supportive social style will help shape Sundzu and Nipho as they continue to build upon their skillsets needed for integration into matriarchal herds later on in life. #Elephant #Bachelor #Herd #SanDiegoZoo | San Diego Zoo | San Diego Zoo · Original audio

According to San Diego Zoo's updated map and app, apparently rhinos are currently at but off exhibit at the zoo. Anyone hear anything about this?
The hippos resided at the rhino habitat at Urban Jungle for more than a year while renovations were made to their previous habitat. They completed the work and hippos are back in the old home, I assume we will have a rhino back at Urban Jungle sometime in the near future.

Is female Shaba non-breeding / post reproductive cow?
