I just heard that the Kangaroo bus is no longer operating. This is where stop 3 was, the Yellow Kangaroo is already taken down!

Not sure if there is going to be another similar option in the future.

That would be a very interesting development. The last tour I went on drove through Urban Jungle instead of the Asian Passage Bear Canyon for what it’s worth.

A couple of updates from the Zoo:
- Many habitats in the reptile house are undergoing renovations including the Black-headed Bushmaster, Casque-headed Iguana, and African Bush Vipers.
- There are at least 3 new Wattled Jacana chicks in the hummingbird aviary.
- Alba, the female Andean Bear, has been moved to one of the Sloth Bear habitats after spending some time with the zoos male Andean Bear Turbo.
- The Sloth Bears are still being housed together with the hope of cubs in the eventual future.

I do think it's a shame those buses are being removed as, like the Bronx Zoo, the San Diego Zoo can be an especially hard walk and this is me talking as a fairly healthy, able bodied young adult who goes to the zoo by themselves

Can't imagine being a wobbly old person or a parent pushing around a stroller and having little kids to drag around

There are three new Meerkat pups in the Kopje! Born to dominant female Shaka. I was told they are two weeks old and I did spot them above ground briefly today toward the back of their habitat.
That’s awesome, I asked a care specialist on my last visit and was told they were still waiting for a birth. I can’t wait to film them on my next trip!

As it turns out, another Meerkat pup emerged from the den the day after my last visit so there are now four pups in total! During my visit yesterday they were running all over the habitat under the watchful eye of the adults and to the great delight of the people watching!

I know the Japanese serow is gone from the San Diego Zoo. I went back to the 2013 thread but it is not mentioned there was a birth. I am trying to find out who Lily's parents are. She went to Zoo Granby in 2018
Zoo de Granby

A few updates from the zoo:
- The Red-Flanked Duiker is now off habitat with signs stating that the space is being enhanced for wildlife. This was also the former Maned Wolf habitat.
- The Kangaroo Bus was discontinued due to a lack and decline in demand and usage. The Bashor Bridge at the center of the zoo is the most likely reason for the change.
- The Bus Tour is regularly going through Urban Jungle and seemingly isn’t going through Asian Passage and Africa Rocks. This could be temporary but it’s been a regular occurrence for the last month.
- Aurora, the Jungle Bells show, will not be returning for the event due to the return of the Giant Pandas.
- I’m hearing that plans are being discussed for a potential merge of Bear Canyon and Urban Jungle as the expansion after the completion of Elephant Valley. The plan would be to level the area and make a slight slope down to Panda Ridge potentially eliminating any bus route in the area.
- A renovation of the Polar Bear Plunge area is also in development. The Arctic Aviary and habitats behind the Polar Bear yard are slated to be demolished and altered as part of this renovation to go along with similar filtration work as the Hippo renovation. Timeline is unknown.

Has there been any inclination to what this area might involve (ie.theming/species)?

Considering that Panda Ridge is still a part of Asian Passage, my best guess would be that this new area would be an expanded version. The details are still being planned, and all we know so far is the project would serve to “flatten” the path from Koalas to Pandas.

I noticed that also. Sometimes I liked to take the Kangaroo Bus from the African marsh up the hill to the stop near the Skyfari, but now there is just a sign about how you can be picked up by a special shuttle for ADA requirements. Same goes for the stop near the giraffes.
