As it turns out, another Meerkat pup emerged from the den the day after my last visit so there are now four pups in total! During my visit yesterday they were running all over the habitat under the watchful eye of the adults and to the great delight of the people watching!

I was lucky to be walking by as the Meerkats were being fed by a WCS. The babies were running off other adults protecting their food. I did not expect that at only 5 weeks old!!

It was very awesome to see!!

That should be her, as Lupe left Seattle yesterday, so that basically confirms that it is indeed her.
Tuesday, September 24, will be the last day to see and wish her well on her new adventure.
I found an article from 2012 where Lupe weighed in at 3,284lbs, so I'd guess she is in that range still. Funani is listed at 3,300lbs, she is referred to as on the smaller size as some females get up to 5,000lbs.

I am digging deep into all of this to learn as much as I can for when she is on habitat!!

Lupe is a delightful lady!!! She is very loved up here in Seattle. She just lost her longtime hippo lady friend Water Lily so I’m really glad she’s going to be with Funani and Amahle.

Are any aviaries closed at the moment?
The Owens aviary will be closed for a long time. They removed all the birds from their habitat, which took months to accomplish. Since then not much has occurred in terms of reconstruction, repair, or redesign. The zoo is not revealing any information as far as I know. Sad.

The word at the Zoo today was Lupe will be on habitat mid October if all goes well with acclimating all 3 girls!!

I have not searched it yet, do you know if Lupe is a mom, how many kiddos? Funani has had 13 babies Amahle being the youngest and the 7th at the SD Zoo!

Lupe has no calves, she has never been with a bull (at least since she was 3). Also, Amahle was actually Funani's ninth calf at the zoo, though one was stillborn in 1998, and one died at only few days old in 2014.

Are there plans at San Diego to acquire a bull for breeding? How large is their exhibit ... Do we have a ground plan?

According to the Zoo’s Facebook fan group, a new, ungendered Francois Langur infant was born yesterday to mom Bang Tang! This is their second Francois’ Langur birth this year after 0.1 Yezi, who was born in April. :)

Mentioned on the Facebook fan group, it is a girl and she has been named "Bingbang", which means “popsicle” in Chinese, which is a very fitting name because her mom Bang Tang’s name means “lollipop".

Couple updates from the zoo:
- An Asian Arowana is now on habitat with the South American Lungfish in the Cool Critters building.
- What appears to be a juvenile Green Vine Snake is now on habitat in the Reptile House replacing the Casque-Headed Iguana.
- The former Maned Wolf habitat was active with construction crews behind the scenes, still unknown what could be going there.
- The male Sloth Bear has been separated from the female and now is in the habitat next to the male Andean Bear.
- The habitat next to the Pygmy Hippopotamus (on the left) has been covered with a bamboo glass film, unknown if anything is going there in the future or if it will remain an empty space.

The bird cage to the right of the Siamese Crocodile on Tiger Trail was blocked off with a bamboo sticker also. Unknown as why.

Also the Dwarf Crocodiles were sitting on a nest left end of the habitat!

It was reported today in the FB Focusing group that Lupe was in the outdoor habitat solo today 10/9/24!!
