Fred fathered Eleanor (1/30/21) with Harriet, and Mawe (11/29/21) with Saba.

Fred left before they were born.

Happy birthday Chifu, 16yo, 12/1/2009!! His newest baby was born yesterday 11/30/25, Mom Mawe turned 4yo the day before, 11/29/2021!!!
The baby was born the 1 day between the parents birthdays!!

The baby was laying outside for a while earlier today!!

Carol (born 5/14/2019) was born on her mother Domibella’s fourth birthday, both of those giraffes have since left the zoo.

It is a masai giraffe calf born to Chifu and Mawe.
Liz Sauer on Instagram: "Masai Giraffe Mawe is a mom! She gave birth early Sunday morning, the day after her 4th birthday. I went to the Zoo to spend time with mom and her 5-day-old baby today, who are already integrated with the rest of the herd as of yesterday. Sometimes new mothers spend a bit more time in isolation, but Mawe was showing signs of being agitated at being separated from the rest of her giraffe family. I’m so grateful that our amazing Wildlife Care Specialists are attuned so well to the animals and follow their lead.
