San Diego Zoo Safari Park San Diego Zoo Safari Park News 2014

So good to see them together finally. Probably wont be long before the whole troop gets to enjoy being with the baby.

The condor cam's Sisquoc and Shatash chick died during the hatching process. They are continuing to incubate the dummy egg in case they are needed to become surrogate parents to another chick. For now the condor cam has moved into another nest and the new stars are parents Sulu and Towich. Their egg is due to hatch in mid April.

Condor Egg Fails to Hatch

News for Condor Cam fans, April 30 a chick hatched. The chick is being fostered by Towich and Sulu. It came from LA while Towich and Sulu's egg went to LA where it hatched under its surrogate parents April 19th. The chicks were switched because they were better release candidates genetically speaking for the other zoos release sites.

Former Condor Cam parents Sisquoc and Shatash are foster parents to a second chick from LA, hatched April 12th, after their original chick died before hatching.

From San Diego Zoo Global's Facebook:
"Sad news: AC-5, the second to last California condor brought in from the wild in 1987 to be part of our breeding program, passed away due to complications from old age. He sired 25 chicks in his 27 years at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, playing an integral role in the recovery of his species. He endeared himself into the hearts of his caretakers, and words can't convey how much he will be missed. We invite you to join us in memorializing this incredibly important bird as he soars off into the great unknown."

I have to agree with you TZFan. She was named after a donor, Joanne Warren. Imani's adopted gorilla Frank was named for Joanne Warren's late husband, Frank. Imani was named after a donor named Faith. Imani means faith in Swahili.
