I sincerely hope that a) the whole cloning thing works out, and b) that San Diego and other similar facilities don't become the only places in the world where living Rhinos can be found, and I feel that we are in serious danger of that happening.

I think we are nowhere near that stage, just in southern Africa in real crisis mode. This whole fight against narco syndicalist criminal networks that have entered the legal trade world in rhino and other wildlife in South Africa and the direct involvement of third party buyers in that market is a real danger to all African wildlife. Sadly, also some prof vet and capture staff and judiciary in South Africa seem to be involved. As long as CITES remains just an economic trade instrument, and does not include as main criterium category of threat where this relates to trade and that no real economic or other legal instruments exist to punish the syndicates, the criminal networks or those not observing the legal requirements of CITES than we remain in this dump.

Given the fact that IV in white rhinos is now more advanced than say 10 years ago and in the last years f.i. Cincinnati has had some success with a similar taxon and the IZW team from Berlin are involved and the zoo in Dvur Kralove, I would expect positive tidings and some progress to emanate from this project.

Kudos to SD Safari and rhino team to get this off on the road!
 
It's a recent birth. I found out through a long string of people. They might be on exhibit soon (that'd be a really active exhibit).

It'd just be Addison and those 6 right? I assume the other cubs (I think there were 4) are elsewhere?
 
Yes. Obviously I live nowhere near there, not sure how many cubs they've had recently, but all six are hers.

It says the previous four cubs are now "at an exhibit in Okavango Outpost".
 
I was at the Safari Park yesterday and a keeper told me that one of the female tigers recently gave birth to 4 cubs. She didn't say which one it was
 
Confirmed: on January 28th, a male and two female cubs arrived to Sumatran Tigers Joanne and Teddy.

The Safari Park seems to have the best luck with big cat breedings! Too bad the zoo's not having quite the same level of success,although once every couple of years we get a jaguar.

Aren't the jaguars the only breeding pair of big cats at the zoo?

I believe so. They could potentially breed their lions but I don't think they would want to, there isn't enough space for them. I believe all the tigers are male.
