San Diego Zoo Safari Park San Diego Zoo Safari Park News 2022

Vusmusi has a great social background but most likely he was simply too young when he went to Fresno. 11 is really young for an african bull to start breeding, most bulls of this age lack the maturity - both socially and physically - to dominate the females without being too rough. I hope he can try anew with the young females from San Diego - these females desperately need to get pregnant ASAP!!!!

Per an email I just received from the SDZWA, it appears they’ve begun to breaking ground on the renovation for Elephant Valley :) Indicating it will take a few years and viewings of their herd will be either modified/limited.
Wonderful! It also appears the live cam has been turned off because of the construction (with pre-recorded content being played currently). Hopefully with Musi here, we’ll have a couple new calves by the time the new habitat opens!

Are there any details in regards to the work would the exhibit area be expanded and perhaps they are building a new barn?

From what I understand, they're just expanding the current habitats and adding in some new viewing areas for the public.

Since I had been following the zoo for many years, I do recall that both the African and Asian elephant areas were 5 acres each and while the moved the asian species to the SD zoo and then connecting both exhibit areas together giving them a total of ten acres!

Yes, they have two enclosures on a sort of hillside set up - one enclosure being above/behind the other.

A further expansion will hopefully allow the Safari Park's herd to breed and expand their herd into the teens.

Very disappointing move by the Safari Park. I hope this isn't permanent, hopefully they'll return down the line.

As has already been stated multiple times in a couple threads, this is permanent unless major management overhaul happens. The current management has zero interest in maintaining Black rhinos in the collection, nor many other species. One by one the collection is dropping and its not likely to stop losing notable species for some time.
