I haven't. Ive only been to Oakland a few times. I'm on west side of SF, SFZoo is the Zoo I'm connected to emotionally.

Oakland Zoo is very underrated. The California Trails Exhibit is breath-taking, especially with that view from the top of the hill.

New projects/demolitions I noticed When I visited the other day:

The big cat grottos are being heavily renovated. The two yards closest to the Bongo is now one bigger yard. My understanding is that the moat is actually going to be mostly filled in to allow visitors to get up close with the cats (the cats don’t seem to Go down into the moats much. Not sure what the plans are for the other two grottos, but this renovation definitely seems like a welcome improvement as it greatly maximizes the amount of space.

There is also some sort of project in the yard between the Indian rhino exhibit and the Komodo Dragon Exhibit. I heard rumors that it’s being turned into an exhibit for some species of monkey (maybe a new home for the Francois Langurs?).

Also, The yard in front of the Komodo exhibit that was briefly home to Aldabra Tortoises has been closed off with a tarp. Not sure what’ll go in place of it.

The Zoo also removed the aviaries between the flamingos and koalas. Not sure what if anything will replace it, but those structures were looking a bit dilapidated.

The small side yard at Puente al Sue exhibit closest to the train ride has been renovated and beautifully planted and is now very much a separate exhibit from the main Puente yard. Not sure what’s going in there but my hope is that it would be for monkeys or maybe Tamanduas.

When I was there a couple of months ago, the keeper I talked to there said they might put their spectacled owl in that spot.

Their spectacled owl and great hornbill that were in the area between the flamingos and the koalas (what I like to call "Aviary Row") is being renovated and going to feature two larger flights. Hercules (the great hornbill) needs a bigger aviary, so I was happy to hear they were renovating that area.
