On July 25th, the zoo opened Tropical Wonders to the public.

On July 27th, it was announced that the zoo transferred a male (1.0) lar gibbon named Bono to Honolulu Zoo in Hawaii.

Santa Barbara Zoo on Instagram: "Exciting news on Gibbon Island! Meet Chanee! ️ After a quarantine period, Chanee (SHAW-nee) the white-handed gibbon was given access to Gibbon Island this week! Chanee is 19 years old and came to Santa Barbara Zoo from Columbus Zoo in Ohio. Her former keepers describe Chanee’s personality as bold, and they say she loves grapes and bananas almost as much as cozy hammock naps. It may take her a week or two to settle into her new home, so she may not be visible to the public while she gets used to her new surroundings. Santa Barbara Independent on Instagram: "The Santa Barbara Zoo (@santabarbarazoo) has two new residents hanging out in its rainforest canopy: Chanee and Mel, a pair of endangered white-handed gibbons, a species that has been threatened by the destruction of rainforests and poaching by humans.⁠ ⁠ Chanee and Mel were matched and brought to the zoo under the guidance of the Species Survival Plan, a collaborative program to support the long-term survival of endangered species in accredited zoos.⁠ ⁠ Nineteen-year-old Chanee is from the Columbus Zoo in Ohio. She has a bold personality and loves snacking on grapes and bananas. Her 24-year-old partner, Mel, arrived last week from the Gladys Porter Zoo in Texas.⁠ ⁠ “Chanee has had two female offspring and was an excellent mother to them,” the zoo said. “Those offspring moved on to other zoos before Chanee came to the Santa Barbara Zoo.
