I personally know a few staff of the Iranian cheetah team and I remain convinced it has thrown the lifeline to the Asiatic cheetah A. jubatus venaticus and that over time the Asiatic cheetah will rebound to a point where a sustainable population will exist both in Iran and in other - former - range countries.
A captive component should be part and parcel of that effort, both to "artificially" increase Asiatic cheetah numbers by captive-breeding and ensuring greater cub survival and by more robust conservation measures in protected areas and increasing / improving prey base in these areas.
