I always have though the renovated Schwerin indoor exhibit did look somewhat crammed and has visitor viewing from close by side (the thing I found not to be the best ... option, I would have accorded the rhinos more privacy ... admittedly people will not think so but rhinos are acutely sensitive to smell, sound and presence).

Shortly, Schwerin Zoo is to acquire a proven bull rhino to get both highly valuable females Clara (b. 2009 - 12) and Karen (b. 2004 est. - 17) to breed a.s.a.p.

As said in the post on instagram: Kimba WILL leave Schwerin for Zürich, but in the near future.

Thanks for the correction Animal! I misread the post, it states that he will leave Schwerin in the begining of June. Have you maybe heard the exact date when he will leave the zoo?
 
The red list centrum opened early this year which houses as the name suggests species that are endangered. The following species can be found in this building: a pair of William's electric blue geckos (Lygodactylus williamsi), 4 male Kirk's dik-diks (Madoqua kirkii) from Osnabrück and Leipzig, a pair of Red-crested turaco (Tauraco erythrolophus) from Safaripark Beekse Bergen and Wildlands Adventure Zoo Emmen, 1.4 Asiatic lions (Panthera leo persica) from Mulhause and London, 1.2 Rothschild's giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi), several splash-back poison dart frogs (Ranitomeya variabilis), 2 species of Partula snails: Partula tohiveana and Partula hyalina, South African ostriches (Struthio camelus australis) and a beatle species.

At the end of 2020 a female Golden-headed lion tamarin (Leontopithecus chrysomelas) passed away, luckly a few months later a new female arrived to accompany the male.

In April 2 Indian crested porcupine (Hystrix indica) were born.

In July a male Scimitar-horned oryx (Oryx dammah) arrived from Zoo Vivarium Darmstadt.

In July 3 Red-breasted geese (Branta ruficollis) arrived, they can be found in the flamingohaus.

In August 2 Cape barren geese (Cereopsis novaehollandiae novaehollandiae) arrived, the can be found in the kangaroo enclosure.

At the end of August 10 South Afircan ostriches hatched, 6 of them turned out to be females.

In September female Striped hyena (Hyaena hyaena) arrived from Kaunas Zoo (Lithuania) to accompany the already present male.

On the 19th of October 109 Partula snails that were born in Schwerin were send to Aquazoo Düsseldorf, which will allow Aquazoo to start breeding with this species.

Recently a pair of Cheer pheasants (Catreus wallichii) arrived from Zoo Wroclaw, they can be found in the gibbon enclosure.

Recently a Greenbottle blue tarantula (Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens) arrived at the zoo, it can be found in the Humboldthaus.

It shows for every stage of the red list one species. From NE to EW.

The Dikdiks have since moved to the Giraffehouse. The exhibit houses now a yellow backed duiker.

Behind the scenes are plenty more, on show only non breeding males.
 
The giraffesavannah borders the red list centrum and the animals are visible from there. But the indoors is a separate building.
 
Behind the scenes the Banded fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra terrestris) have produced offspring!

Recently male Goeldi's marmoset (Callimico goeldii) Unai was send to Zoo Augsburg, soon a new female will arrive that will be paired with the remaining male "Homer" (Son of Unai). Currently Homer lives with the Golden-headed lion tamarins (Leontopithecus chrysomelas).
