I have no experience with W.T. Sea Eagle, except not seeing them on Skye:( despite being near the location of a nesting pair.

Luck is a big factor; I have seen the species in the wild on Skye about half a dozen times :D

It is with all birds really, and especially big species like Eagles that sit about doing nothing much of the time. I had no luck with Golden Eagle on Skye either, despite watching in a very suitable area in the Cuillins.

Bu I've had great sightings of them elsewhere.

I feel very privileged as I have seen four out of the five species in the wild :)
The only one I haven't seen is the red squirrel.

Of the five on the list, the golden eagle wins my vote by a narrow margin - with the otter a very close second.

That said, the species I'd most like to see are: the wildcat, capercaillie, osprey and crested tit.

I once saw a golden eagle flying over Glencoe at 5am in the morning - one of the best sights ever.

Red squirrel is the species I have seen most often; I am fortunate in that my girlfriend lives in the Northumberland National Park and has red squirrels living in her garden :)

Being as I have not weighed in on the subject of what my personal iconic five for Scotland would be, here goes...

Pine Marten
Whitetailed Eagle
Scottish Wildcat
Red Squirrel
Capercailie

I'd be tempted to say Scottish Crossbill, but despite how unique it is, it isn't visually distinctive enough, nor well known enough, to merit the term "iconic".
