Paid a visit to this small collection for the first time this morning. A number of species were off-show due to the cooler weather (zebra, mongoose, all of the primates and birds) but it was still a pleasant way to spend an hour and a half. The group of cheetahs were a clear highlight, as well as the very nice penguin enclosure. The pair of wolf exhibits are also excellent with a wonderful view of the lakefront— still don’t think I’ve ever seen a bad wolf exhibit in a zoo. Everything is very basic in appearance as you’d expect from a community zoo of this caliber, but well done overall.

The new mountain lion exhibit is nearly complete and should open within the next few weeks. It would definitely be better suited to a smaller feline, but for a zoo that mostly consists of chain-link pens and wood-wire cages, it will stand out as a fresh and modern enclosure. I was able to get this photo by the zebu yard that provides an idea of the design:

The cougar habitat will open to the public in a few days:

New exhibit set to open at Scovill Zoo on Monday

@pachyderm pro Your summary of this Zoo is pretty much what my impression was when I visited back in 2018. Cheetahs and penguins being the highlights, while most of everything else is fairly basic, but still pleasant overall. Based on the current photos though, I’m pleased by some of the progress made. :)
