I'm travelling from NZ to Adelaide on the 26th of Dec, to Perth on the 30th of Dec, Singapore on the 2nd of Jan, Dehli on the 6th of Jan and Bagdogra (Northern India) on the 10th of Jan... Returning from Bagdogra on the 28th of Jan

I plan on taking in:

- Adelaide Zoo (that's right Giant Panda viewing bitch*s)
- Monarto Zoo

- Perth Zoo
- WA Aquarium

- Singapore Zoo
- Singapore Night Zoo
- Jurong Bird Park
- Sentosa Aquarium

- Dehli Zoo

- One of the National Parks near Bagdogra (there are a couple within a couple of hours)

Am I forgetting anything obvious..?

Any recommendations..?

if you have a day free at both, then I'd definitely recommend visiting Kangaroo Island from Adelaide and Rottnest Island from Perth.

In Singapore, the Insect Park is on Sentosa Island so can be done along with the Aquarium

When I was in Singapore (January 2008) the Pink Dolphin lagoon was some distance from Underwater World and it would have been easy to miss if I hadn't been thinking. But I understand it has moved, possibly closer to the aquarium, of which it is an integral part and the ticket good for both.

While not an animal collection as such (rather animal attraction) there is also the 'Multi-animal show' on Sentosa Island. Not sure I can explain what I mean but you'll find my photos under 'Singapore - Other'

It might also be interesting to spend an hour or two at Rodney Fox' Shark Museum in the beach suburb of Glenelg in Adelaide. I for one was very impressed by it.

I think the Rodney Fox Museum has moved to the whale centre in Victor Harbor

All right, maybe they have more space there, it was rather small as I recall it (my photos are in the 'Australia - Other' gallery) - Fox is an incredible man to dedicate his life to the preservation of an animal that almost took his life. He was out at sea when I was there but I spoke to his wife for a while.

Just to clarify matters: Why do you only plan one stint out of Bagdogra while you are there for 16 days?

I have business in Bagdogra which is the reason fot the trip, I'm just adding a little holiday in beforehand...

Thanks for all the suggestions so far, I'll definitely keep this excellent info in mind...

Hey Jeremy,

I will be heading to India myself next year so any reviews/photographs you can provide for Dehli Zoo would be much appreciated.

Will it be your first Giant Panda?

Have a safe trip!

I'll see what I can do re. reviews and photos, I still have a lot of photos from my zoo travels in the South Island of NZ that I haven't even got out of my camera yet..!

Certainly will be my first Giant Panda, at first I was going to go straight to India but the new acquistions at Adelaide are the reason I've added these first three stops...

I recently uploaded my best Delhi Zoo pictures in the gallery...I could attempt my first review sometime tonight hopefully too.

NZ Jeremy,

As for northern India. Here is my list for a suggested itinerary:

Destinations close to Bagdogra, West Bengal, India:
Gorumara Wildlife Sanctuary / National Park
Baikunthapur Forest
Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary
Jorpokhri Wildlife Sanctuary

Destinations a little further from Bagdogra:
Neora National Park
Singalila National Park
Buxa Wildlife Sanctuary
Manas National Park

Optional zoos:
Guwahati Zoo
Patna Zoo

If I had to take a pick I would chose Gorumara WS/NP, Buxa WS and Manas NP + both zoos suggested at the bottom.

Good luck with choosing your final options!

I second Chlidonias' suggestion of Kangaroo and Rottnest Islands. While in Adelaide you might also want to visit Cleland or Gorge Wildlife Parks.

:p
