Will do :). It'd be a good many years off yet, so plenty of time to research/plan :)
 
iv just been offerd a pr of black tailed gulls from a breeder they do look nice i must say the question is do i or dont i im verry tempted they look like a greater black backed but smaller but just as nice
 
Of COURSE you do. Can't pass up an opportunity like that; and who on earth is breeding them?
 
i can get 2 pr of them from abroad , looks like il have to have them then iv looked them up on the net and they look verry nice just nead to do a bit more research about them
 
im collecting 2 pr of the black tailed gulls on friday iv done a bit of research they seem to breed ok in captive collections and are more friendly to humans than most gulls, they are 2010 birds so will be a few years before they mature verry nice looking birds,
 
Very exciting. I take they are not UK bred? Pinioned or full-winged? A photo on here would be nice. Will be interested to hear how you get on with them. How do they compare size-wise with Herring Gulls?
 
i am looking foward to getting them as far as i no they were bred in a zoo in germany they are pinioned and are a bit smaller than a herring gull , i will get some pics of them verry soon ,
 
well i collected the black tailed gulls got a bit excited and purchased 6 birds they were bred in berlin zoo i have the dna papers for them to verry pleased with them when i got them home i put a dish of chopped up spratts in for them and wow talk about blink and you will miss it , they have only been wing clipped so thats great il make a lot larger flight so they can free fly i will try to get some pics verry soon,
 
Leigh -- Congratulations on the Black-tailed. Looking forward to pictures; they should be more interesting and do better as full-winged birds. I take it they're the only ones in the UK?
 
im not aware of any in uk , im realy pleased they are full winged i have them with the herring gulls at the moment until i build a new enclosure weather permitting i should start this week im going to build a large rear wall cliff with rocks ect should be a interesting project,
 
new enclosure nr complete just got to collect large rocks tomorow from a local quarry , i went beach combing got some realy nice drift wood also loads of seaweed ect im sure they will like it ,
 
the black tailed are a lot more friendly, they nr feed out of hand, wont be long til they do. they realy enjoy the pond each time i clean it out and play with bits of seaweed . they to enjoy a fresh cabbage as the herring gulls do. when the black tailed are feeding they make a funny cat type noise. im feeding them chopped up spratts and floating duck pellets , they are a nice steady bird i can walk about them without them going silly. i did look them up on the net, some nice youtube bits on them ,with a chap walking about them while breeding in japan .

they do take a few years to mature like herring gulls , im looking foward to them being able to free fly as they are wing clipped at min , they are verry interesting birds to watch
