Sea otters can now live in Southern California

In the 1980s the U.S. government tried to appease angry fishermen by excluding sea otters trying to reclaiming their range in Southern California. They experimented with establishing one sea otter population in the California Channel Islands and returning all other sea otters colonizing Southern California back to Central California. The experiment failed, and now the restrictions are lifted and the otters can re-establish their range.
