SeaWorld Orlando SeaWorld Orlando News

Orca Encounter Stadium is closing on Monday for the main renovations. Front pool will be drained and a new more naturalistic set will be installed along with the replacement of the acrylic glass around the show pool. There will also be no Inside Look experiences at the stadium during this time due to the renovations.

Walrus Herd Updates
A female walrus at SeaWorld Orlando is supposedly pregnant, it is suspected to be Aurora as it is confirmed that Kaboodle is not pregnant and Aku is not sexually mature yet ruling out the other cows.

Orlando also recently received the permits to expand the walrus habitat into the current Harbor Seal (Former Polar Bear enclosure) allowing for twice the amount of space for the walrus however construction has not started and it is unknown when this project will be carried out.

Aku and Ginger will be staying at SeaWorld Orlando for the time being as construction on their enclosure at the Indianapolis Zoo will not be starting until after the Chimpanzee enclosure is finished (confirmed through email to the zoo).

I'm glad to hear they're expanding the Walrus habitat. The whole of Wild Arctic has not aged well from an Animal Welfare perspective.

Wow, great to read they will expand the walrus into the other habitat, using it for just the harbor seal seemed overkill, especially when they also rotate the seals into the beluga habitat.

At the Orca Stadium the main show pool and two of the back pools have been drained. Decorated items are also starting to be removed. Construction has been slow because of the weather but everything seems to still be going well! Currently their is a new killer whale show taking place in the UV pool that guests can watch and it is more informal and educational then the normal Orca Encounter. Hopefully everything goes well and the new stadium, "better then San Diego," will be done before the summer season!

The penguins were in the previous polar bear exhibit, are there penguins in the beluga exhibit? That exhibit doesn’t seem conducive to penguin exhibit!
Yeah, the pictures I saw were the fomer polar bear exhibits, As for them being in the beluga tank, that is unknown at this point, but it would make sense if they moved out the belugas entirely. No, it is not great for penguins, but it would be temporary and better than some current penguin exhibits (Florida Aquarium, for example).

Penguins are temporarily in Wild Arctic while the new rollercoaster is being constructed next to their area. I expect once the penguins are moved back Orlando will get back into beluga.
To those who might think the penguins in Wild Arctic are the cold-weather species from the Antarctica building, they are not. The penguins of question are the typically off-show Magellanic Penguins, which are a temperate-weather species.

Oh, interesting. Thank you for pointing that out. So in that case one would assume that they don't have anything to do with the rollercoaster construction?

Curious indeed if that is the case.

I doubt the penguins and the beluga moves have anything to do with one another.

I agree, I did not realize the penguins currently in the Wild Arctic area were the off-show Magellanic penguins.

But to be fair, I don't think any of us really know what is going on with the beluga, those penguins, or the walrus.
