Seeing all of the big cats in the wild

Big Cats, Medium Cats, Small Cats.

Is there a Medium 'stroke' Large size, or even a XL or XXL cat?....
I have decreed that there certainly are XXL cats and that they shall be called ligers.

There used to be a brilliantly bonkers website called the Anti Liger Alliance but it seems to no longer be accessible beyond the home page. Sad.

Anyway, Hercules was a liger. (That's Hercules the liger, not Hercules the man-god).

Whilst on zoo chat and therefore thinking about animals, your mention of Hercules being a liger immediately gets me thinking what the &@$% is this Kiwi on about, as being an English child of the late 70's and 80's Hercules the animal is only one thing - a Grizzly Bear celebrity and a good wrestler too :D I met him once too many years ago.

Sorry for divulging off topic.

maybe Hercules the bear is actually Hercules the liger in a bear suit. That's what wrestling is all about, showmanship, pretending to be what one is not. Look at The Rock -- not even his real name!!! The Barbarian Brothers -- not real Barbarians!! I declare all Herculeseses to be ligers. Moderator's decision is final :p

Really? Geez.

Postscript: I just googled it because I thought Chlidonias was pulling our collective legs. But he's not, The Rock is not his real name.

Mind you, if my name was Dwayne, I'd probably call myself something else too.

:p

At the risk of pulling my thread back on track, Andy Porter of the Widlife Heritage Foundation (UK big cat park) is leading a trip to see wild snow leopards in February 2015. Trip will be to Hemis National Park (which I think is in India?). I am not going, although I will be photographing a captive snow leopard with Andy at one of his WHF photo days in about a week. (I did it with him last year - great fun and great photo ops.)

I did the Exodus travel company's In Search of the Snow Leopard trip last February in Hemis, Ladakh, which is indeed northern India. We had four good sightings, but I think we were especially lucky in this from what I've heard at the time and subsequently. That said, I also get the impression Hemis is a great place to see these cats.

I did a write-up on a thread here:
