Seeing Species in a Funny Order

I don’t have any particularly interesting examples but I guess rusty spotted cat before Pallas's cat and takin before aoudad count.

Saw both Rhinoceros and Cayman Blue Iguana before having seen a Green Iguana (still haven't seen one)
Also saw a Spectacled Bear but have never seen a Black Bear of any variety.

Seen Sunda Colugo before seeing my first Nightjar in the wild.
In captivity, I saw Philippine Eagle before ever seeing Black Kite, African Fish Eagle, and somehow, Eurasian Wigeon.

I just saw Island Fox wild and still haven't seen it captive, and when comparing wildlife sightings, I haven't seen Gray Fox yet. Island Fox is only my 4th wild canid, after Coyote, Red Fox, and Tanuki.

Couple others I thought about recently.
I've seen a Monocled Cobra before seeing a King Cobra
I've seen a Caiman Lizard before seeing an Argentine Black-and-White or Red Tegu (including in pet shops)
I've seen a Chinese Giant Salamander before seeing a Hellbender
I've seen white lions before seeing typical lions
Like HumanLandfill, I saw Gaur before seeing Ankole-Watusi Cattle (unlike the previous cases, I have now seen both)

I saw Asiatic lions before I saw African Lions.
I saw a Maned Wolf before seeing a Grey Wolf.
I saw an Amazon Manatee, then Dugong, then African Mantee, then finally a West Indian Manatee.
(Wild) I saw a ton of Goshawks and Eurasian Sparrowhawks before ever seeing my first wild Japanese Sparrowhawk.
(Wild) I saw a Little Stint before finally seeing a Red Necked Stint.

As an American:

My first visit to an overseas zoo or aquarium was Ocean Park Hong Kong.

I’ve been to the Azores and Fiji but not yet to Hawaii.
