Selwo Safari selwo adventure

Been there in 2001 when it had only been open for short time. Reminds one of the San Diego WAP in the same as pepsi reminds one of coca cola, looks the same but does not taste nearly as good. Relatively limited walking area, you are hurried past everything in a train, which is the chief reason why I do not and will never like safari parks, except those where walking trails cover the whole area as well, like in Beekse Bergen.

I agree. Werribee has 6 exhibits that are on a path that you can walk past and about 10 amazing exhibits on the bus tour that you can't see. I would like to be able to stop and watch at my own pace.

Asian elephant birth

The elephant.se site reports the birth at Selwo of a male calf to the pair of EM that came there from Lisbon . They also house female Chikky who was one of the Cricket St. Thomas elephants .

That is excellent news I was hoping when Samicuta and Ganapati were going to have another calf,

I am considering visiting Selwo Aventura at the end of April / beginning of May when I am going on holiday to Benalmadena. I would appreciate any thoughts you have on the place (opinions already expressed in earlier posts have been taken on board), and does anyone have any photos they could upload please? :)

Does this place still keep Gaur? has not been there for ages myself but remember that they keept a nice group when I last visited, believe they have breed them there too.

Acording the selwo web page they not keep gaur actually...

Anyone know how their population of Giraffa camelopardalis angolensis is doing?

This giraffe subspecies is very rare and apparently only found in 3 european zoos, and 2 of these zoos in the Iberian Peninsula (Selwo and Lisboa), only other place that keep them is Dortmund in Germany.

I believe Dortmund breed this subspecies quite regulary, Lisboa has also breed it several times but what about Selwo, how many individuals do they have and have the breed in recent years? have seen them here but never paid any notice to them (a few years ago), though it was just "rregular" hybrid giraffes:). If they are not having any succes with this rare giraffe they better send them to Lisboa, or Dortmund which clearly are doing some great work with them.

I also saw Angolan Giraffe at the now closed El Retiro Park (Malaga) and I assume that the ones remaing there now is at Selwo?
