When I first saw this headline, I cringed thinking it was going to be in the old lynx cage. Luckily they put it in the old cougar exhibit which is so much better!
 
County Executive Brooks hints at Zoo announcement

Could there be changes in store for the Seneca Park Zoo? Monroe County Maggie Brooks will make a major announcement regarding the Zoo Thursday. News10NBC is told Brooks will release hints about the announcement on her Twitter page all Thursday morning.

Officials say they think this announcement will bring thousands of visitors to the Zoo this summer. There is a news conference at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Seneca Park Zoo on St. Paul Street.

Someone said they're expanding the parking lot. If that's the news ill be so annoyed.
 
* Grass has been added to the outside exhibits of the lemurs, spider monkeys, and I believe white handed gibbons. However, the outside orangutan exhibit still has concrete flooring.
* The snowy owl is in another exhibit across from the hyenas. Their former exhibit looks like it's getting work done so I believe this is a temporary move.
* The old leopard cages now house raccoons in one and turkey vultures in the other.
* The lion cubs are slowly getting used to their outdoor exhibit. When I went, I waited for a half hour, but one only darted out real quick. The keepers did their best to lure them out, but they made sure to give the cubs the choice to enter or not.
 
Well, this gives me a very good reason to return to this zoo. Dara has had outdoor access so it will be nice to finally see one of the orangutans at the Virginia Zoo use their outside yard.
 
Roscoe the white rhino will be leaving this zoo for The Wilds in Ohio. His half brother, Bill will remain at the zoo and press releases show he may not be getting a mate just yet (if at all...). This move is happening because it is a breeding recomendation from the AZA. This decision comes as the zoo is making "long term plans" for their collection, including the animals in the "Main Animal Building". That sais, this means we MAY, let me repeat MAY, be seeing some new animals in the future!
 
* One of the larger terrariums has been removed from the Main Building. Unfortunately, I cannot remember what animal was in it before.
* The female African spurred tortoise has moved into the Main Building incorporated with the meerkats. One of the keepers said she needed some alone time from the male. If I were to guess why, it would probably be from the persistent mating sessions that happen daily. The male African spurred tortoise is in the original tortoise exhibit.
* In the Ecostation, the terrarium that used to hold the American bullfrog is empty and dark. However, it looks like it's completely filled with water now.
* It may have been a temporary rotation, but the white handed gibbons were in the outside spider monkey exhibit and vise versa with the spider monkeys.
* A small caged exhibit that was right next to the butterfly garden has been removed and it looks like they'll be using the extra land for landscaping.
* White faced whistling ducks have been added to the African black footed penguin exhibit. The ducks keep to one side of the exhibit and the penguins keep to the other side.
* The snowy owls are off exhibit.

On a personal note, I noticed an elephant photo I submitted to their photo contest last year is now featured on their back of their summer zoo map. :-)
