On March 12th, the zoo announced that their ravens and bald eagles have been moved off-exhibit due to re-perching and exhibit renovations.

On May 1st, the zoo announced that on June 4th, there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a special event dedicated to the grand opening of the Redwood Sky Walk.

On October 2nd, the zoo announced that on September 30th, the zoo's director and manager Gretchen Ziegler retired after 15 years on the job.

On October 4th, the zoo announced they have acquired (0.0.7) Behren's silverspot butterflies for breeding purposes and they have laid 700+ eggs.

On October 9th, the zoo announced they have hired a new director, Jim Campbell-Spickler. He has previously worked with the zoo on the Redwood Sky Walk project, as well as working as a rigger and cinematographer on projects with National Geographic, Discovery, and the BBC, among others.

On November 19th, the zoo announced that their (0.1) North American porcupine named Dorsie was recovering from an illness and is back on exhibit with their (0.1) northern spotted owl named Winky in the McLean Foundation Raptor Aviary.

On December 4th, the zoo announced they have acquired a (0.1) Virginia opossum named Pocket after she was found injured in the wild. She will be rotated with Boo the spotted skunk in an exhibit in the Barnyard area.

Here is a recent article about plans to add a 'Redwood Canopy Skywalk' to the zoo. From the article:
"Alongside the skywalk, there are also plans for a “Native Predator” exhibit. This will feature mountain lions, black bear and coyotes. The new skywalk will pass above this exhibit before moving outside the zoo boundary into the tall trees of Sequoia Park."

On August 19th, the zoo announced they have released (0.0.5) Behrens silverspot butterfly pupae back into the wild. This is the first time ever that this subspecies has successfully reproduced in captivity.

Sequoia Park Zoo is closed today after the 6.4 earthquake and numerous aftershocks that occurred last night. The zoo itself has not yet released any statement that I can find about the condition of the facility and its inhabitants - hopefully minimal damage. Via other sources they still lack power along with most of the city of Eureka, and there are widespread reports of damage throughout the north coast area.
 
Far as I can tell Sequoia Park is reopen today, as the banner on their site has changed. They never released anything on their social media so presumably they're fine.
 
On April 27th, the zoo announced that a (0.1) llama named Inca passed away at age 21 due to a decline in health caused by arthritis.

On June 8th, the zoo announced that due to the low risk of avian influenza, the Nancy Hilfilker Aviary was reopened to the public.

On June 21st, the zoo announced that they moved their Chilean flamingos back on exhibit due to lower cases of avian influenza.
