On February 18th, it was announced that 4 guests reportedly gained access to a behind-the-scenes area repeatedly, though no staff or animals were harmed. It was also announced that the individuals stole items from the gift shop and threw a bench off the Skywalk, with local police asking for information that would lead to their arrest.

HUCK the Northern Raccoon has passed away from leukemia at the age of 9.
Sequoia Park Zoo on Instagram: "Sequoia Park Zoo is heartbroken to share the passing of Huckleberry (Huck) the northern raccoon at the age of 9 years old. After a sudden decline in health, veterinary tests revealed that Huck had leukemia, which had not been previously observed in northern raccoons. While keeping Huck comfortable, our Zoo's veterinarian consulted with pathologists and other vets to learn more about potential treatments and his prognosis. Unfortunately, Huck passed away in his sleep. Huck was a gentle and sweet raccoon who enjoyed playing with toys, engaging in training sessions, lounging in a good hammock, and having a sit next to his human-caretakers. Although raccoons may be considered common, there was nothing common about this wonderful, playful raccoon. He will be missed. Huckleberry and his sister Sequoia joined our Zoo in 2015 from a wildlife rehabilitation center in Grass Valley, California after they were determined to be non-releasable. The kits were accidentally separated from their mother and were stuck in a hot attic for 3 days before the home-owner discovered them and rushed them to a wildlife rehabilitation center. While growing, the wildlife rehabilitators noticed that these two raccoons had motor disabilities that made it harder for them to balance, walk, and run. Despite treatment, these issues never resolved, so the kits could not be returned to the wild. While both raccoons' motor skills improved at the Zoo, visitors and zoo keepers would still sometimes see them topple over during a case of the zoomies. His sister Sequoia is being given extra attention by animal care staff to help with the change. We encourage our friends and visitors to share photos or memories of Huckleberry in a comment below."
