Dallas Zoo Series of animal escapes, deaths and thefts at Dallas Zoo

I know there's only a couple of facilities in the US that have successfully bred Emperor Tamarins - if these animals are not returned, could it affect the population as a whole?

Right now they're having to go into work not knowing what might have happened overnight.

Curious about this - have these incidents happened overnight? I was under the impression that at least some of them were during open hours. The video of the person of interest definitely is. If so, I worry even more for the keepers who are having to safely do their jobs while also watching out for another attack.

I believe the vulture incident was, but maybe I'm wrong. My point being the staff don't know what may have happened while they were gone or even just while they were in a different part of the zoo. That is no doubt massively difficult to work with, and the least we can do is support them and not be throwing fingers at our own hypotheses that could spread around the internet.

Relieved that the tamarins were recovered quickly. Hopefully somebody has been arrested and this will be the end of these bizarre incidents.

No arrests yet. The tamarins were found stashed in a closet in an abandoned house following a tip. Perhaps they’ll be able to get more information from whoever provided the tip, but no one was in the building at the time. This is definitely a step in a good direction though.

Also it was noted that there were birds and cats also stashed in the house, so this may be a case of exotic pet trade smuggling. Why they’d be so stupid as to steal their animals from such a high-profile source as a zoo though, I have no idea.

And I am still not ruling out animals rights activists.

Glad to hear especially for the keepers. Did they say what other kind of birds or cats were there?

Missing Dallas Zoo Monkeys Found in Lancaster

So a Lancaster women by the name of Tanya was the one who reported the tip to authorities about the missing tamarins. She was only willing to give her first name to media outlets. Also “the empty building where the monkeys were found was recently broken into and filled with wild animals, according to a nearby church that owned the property and planned to use it as a youth center.”

My heart goes out to the Dallas Zoo tonight as this amazing zoo is going through unimaginable pain ❤️.

I've yet to read any article mentioning this, so I'd be interested in a linked article.

Which speaking of, here's a more extensive article including comments from AZA director Dan Ashe and the director of the Dallas Zoo.
2 monkeys taken from Dallas Zoo found alive in Lancaster, officials say

This is the article I was referencing:

Dallas Zoo: Missing monkeys found by police | wfaa.com

It simply said “birds and cats” when last I read it but it looks like it has now been updated to specify pigeons and domestic cats.

Thanks for linking the article. Hopefully the tamarins are ok after being in those dirty conditions and didn't pick up anything disease-wise. Odd it was pigeons and domestic cats, that's not what I would have expected from the scenario.

I am glad that tamarins were recovered and returned home quickly. I cannot imagine what a frightening and stressful experience this must have been for them.
