Colchester Zoo Shadow the zeedonk has died

Very good age although I must admit she didnt look good last time we went to the zoo!

She was being bothered by one of the zebras and looking very sorry for herself :(

Thats a shame but for such an animal she did live a long life. Even with the moral issues surrounding the animal, the zeedonks will be remembered for a long time as one of the zoos most famous and well known animals.

Does anyone know if there any other surviving zeedonks left in zoos worldwide?

Their is a Zetland at Eden Ostrich World, but i wouldn`t go out of your way to visit the place as its a total **** hole of a place as far as i`m concerned.

I thought that Eden Ostrich World had closed? If so, I wonder what happened to the hybrid. This animal was sired by a Grant's zebra belonging to Mary Chipperfield that had been living at Lowther Wildlife Park before that collection closed. It wasn't realised that the Shetland mare was in foal until long after the sire had left these shores for Europe.

Zebra hybrids are regularly bred in the states and there are a fair few in Europe too. Do a google search.

Well my visit was in may last year so it may well have closed by now if it has then it would have been for the best as it had some of the worst enclosures i have seen any where.
