Basically, you can consider the situation here to be "essentially the same" as the general global situation. Beijing Zoo once acquired pure-bred Bengal tigers from their native habitat, but failed to maintain them.
The renovation project for the medium-sized carnivore exhibit area at Shanghai Zoo is scheduled to begin construction on October 10, 2025, with a planned duration of 450 days. The first two images show the current condition, and the last image shows the rendering after renovation.
Currently, this renovation project involves the existing exhibition areas for sun bears, spotted hyenas, striped hyenas, red foxs, cougars, Eurasian lynxes, servals, and caracals. These animals may be removed from exhibition for several years as a result, or some of them might be exhibited at other locations—however, it is still hard to tell at this point.
Unfortunately, they are no longer available. Their Red-footed Booby was only exhibited for a short period.
Temporary adjustments to bird displays are common at Shanghai Zoo. For example, the Red-footed Boobies you mentioned, the Fairy Pitta they used to keep, and the Northern boobook that were recently on show (now removed from exhibition) — all had relatively short display periods. I plan to compile a list of the currently housed bird species after my next visit. However, it’s actually quite difficult to spot every bird in certain enclosures (such as the walk-through aviary), so I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to document all species.
