Shedd announces additional cetacean births. Naya (Beluga) actually gave birth to twins, however one was stillborn. Very rare in cetaceans to see multiples. The surviving calf is small for gestational age, likely due to twin status. Katrl (Pacific White Sided Dolphin) appears to have given birth to a healthy calf. Will be very interesting to see who fathered both. Shedd has two male belugas that could be the father. However, Katrl's calf is likely the result of AI, as it does not appear in the MMIR that she was moved to either facility that has mature males in the US for this pregnancy.

Bella's calf at Shedd is 6 months old and has been named Atlas. No mention of sire yet.

Not recent news at this point but Harmony's sire was Sagu (I didn't see it mentioned in the thread so I thought I'd add it in for anyone viewing who may not have known)

Specific news isn't updated here often other than for the marine mammals, so I'll note that I saw the lone sea otter in the exhibit. Are there any plans to bring back another after the other one's passing?

They definitely have a few additional otters. An article from this April celebrating the birthday of their eldest otter, Yaku, mentions he is one of five otters at the aquarium, including Luna, Watson, Cooper, and Kiana, who has passed as mentioned. Yaku appears to be the only northern sea otter left, along with Kiana, in contrast to three youngsters all being southern species. If Yaku has passed on since then I am not aware.

In addition, there is a recent Instagram video featuring the otter pups named Cooper and Watson. It doesn't look certain they are on display. Luna is also a younger individual.
 
Shedd Aquarium Bolsters Blanding's Turtle Populations

Head-start program to raise and release the state-endangered Great Lakes turtle continues.

Earlier this month, Shedd Aquarium released 24 state-endangered Blanding’s turtles (Emydoidea blandingii) in a protected site with Forest Preserve District of DuPage County (FPDDC), as well as welcomed 29 new hatchlings to the aquarium, to bolster native, wild populations. As part of the head-start effort, Shedd raises the turtles from baby hatchlings to yearlings to provide them a greater chance of survival in the wild.

As an Illinoisan I will say that this is great!!! Even though I am not from near the Great Lakes (or anywhere that one could find Blanding’s turtles) I still am very pleased to hear this!!!
