This collection of fish , reptiles , amphibians and invertebrates has the unusual setting of a converted Victorian Chapel of Rest in the middle of a Cemetery .

On the ground floor a number of tanks exhibit local marine life ( the smaller tanks of 'small creatures' are fascinating ) , also pond life , axolotl , various sea-horses and others . Upstairs is an interesting collection of snakes and lizards ( many species breeding ) , frogs and a wide variety of stick insects and other invertebrates . The owners are very friendly .

Regular visitors will be sad to hear of the death of two long-term residents - a large Tegu lizard ( legend has it that a regular zoo-chatter was able to inform the owners of the sub-species of this impressive specimen ) and an African Grey Parrot .

The collection now has local competition in the 'Dragon Reptile Experience' at near-by Cosheston .This promises over 100 enclosures of reptiles , insects , fish and amphibians . Unlike Silent World it has some crocodiles and venomous snakes . They also have a Reptile Pet Store . Must check it out when I next head West .

I've visited Silent World five times over the years, my first visit was at the age of about 8.

My absolute favourite place to holiday in the UK is Amroth down the road from Tenby, so I've been with my Dad in recent years despite family hols being long over!

We have always loved Silent World, particularly as an aquarium it is a unique, fascinating and well presented little gem.
Well worth a visit, a magical place

Sad to here about the Tegu was a wonderfull specimen,cannot be many Argentina Tegus on show now in the UK.

Sad to find out that Silent World in Tenby has closed . The owners had been looking for more suitable premises for some time but , after 22 years at the site decided to close . They are operating an outreach service and hope to be able to re-open to the public if they can find the right premises in Pembrokeshire .

I always enjoyed my visits to the very interesting and unusual collection and found out about the closure when checking their website , as I was planning a visit later this week .
