Changing topic, sorry!
do you anything about Chawang's descendants birth dates?
Sang Raja I've got.
But Sang Wira and the notnamed male i can't find,
With Jamliah what was the date that she gave birth, was it the notnamed male? And what about Sri Utama apparently she died in 2000 but another site says she is still alive, since she came into the world in 1998.
Father palong right?

I'm not sure of Sang Wira's exact birth date.

The male calf with no name died before it reached one year of age. Possibly Jamilah's.

Sri Utama broke her leg shortly after birth. Surgery was performed on her and she initially responded well. But in 2000 she died suddenly of heart failure. She was Jamilah's offspring with Palong.

I agree . I wish my closest zoo is heaps better . They might get more visits from me then . If only I lived in Singapore , or Chester , or .......:)

Any news on Chawang being an A.I donor, there was talk about donations to Perth, Melbourne and a European zoo but didn't say what European zoo.

Can you answer this Zooish?

Haven't been following up on this i'm afraid, so i got no clue.

Went to Melbourne zoo today, apparently chawang has donated sperm to Melbourne, it is currently frozen for future use.

Not sure i just heard it from a keeper i asked doing educational talks.

Hope they do try A.I at some stage, attempts for mating with Bong Su has failed apprently to a journalist. But hiring the A.I team from germany would cost a heck of a lot. Chawang apprently has extremly valuable genes because of his beautiful crossed tusks and rare skin clour.

Most elephants from West Malaysia have very tan almost black skin like Chawang. It also helps that he was a wild elephant so his genes are important to the captive population.

Does anyone have a good range of images for the elephants at singapore night safari?
