Skærup Zoo is now the first zoo in Danish history to keep the ever-more common Visayan warty pig. I actually had the feeling that they would get their hands on these sooner or later given that they have a history of keeping unusual pig species (they had white-lipped peccaries at one point) and like keeping species that cannot be seen elsewhere in Denmark.
During 2016 a male and 2 females Chacoan maras arrived at Skaerup Zoo and during April this year the first young was/were born

Last month a male black Jaguar was born at Skaerup
Golden ( Shensi ) takins have found a new home at Skaerup :

Other new additions for this season are mountain hare, gundi, Kenyan sand boa, naked mole-rat, Amazon tree boa, and golden-headed lion tamarin. The former three cannot be seen on public view elsewhere in Denmark (though I'm pretty sure the sand boas are around in private hands).
Unfortunately, that's just Danish public transport (outside of the four largest cities) in a nutshell, though the fact that there actually is a bus thrice a day probably makes it better than average.
My best suggestion would be that you rent a bike in Vejle and go to Skærup that way - it would take 40-50 minutes each way, and there seems to be a dedicated bike lane along Fredericiavej. If that's somehow not possible for you, I'm afraid a car is the only option left. Or a taxi, of course, but that'd be crazy expensive.

The Skaerup Zoo seems to be slowly climbing the ladder and getting together a rather neat animal collection, I must say!
I wouldn't say they're actually climbing, since their collection has been pretty neat (especially by Danish standards) since day 1 in the 24 years they've existed. Every season, some species have gone out, and other new and unusual species have been added, though the 2025 roster hasn't been announced yet.
