Slimbridge WWT Slimbridge WWT

Thank you so much Adrian, as someone who is planning a trip to slimbridge and maybe some of the other WWT sites this is greatly appreciated (especially given how unreliable ZTL can sometimes be)

Sent a E-Mail to all WWT collections asking for help with all current species within the collections,
Please note if the species is extremely rare and breeding I will not state which collection it's in but will add it to species held.

I will be adding a list of current species at Slimbridge WWT and will shortly after provide a list of ALL species currently kept at all WWT sites.
The species that have left Slimbridge and not gone to other WWT collections I will add a list of where those can be found.
Please not this will be after the Easter Holidays,
Did you ever make this list for Slimbridge's current holdings? If so I'd be very interested in seeing it.

Captive bird wise, I'd definitely recommend checking out the two new Southern Screamer chicks who have hatched recently in the free flight aviary on the way to the discovery hide (probably a week or so old when I saw them on 8th June), such pretty youngsters.

Sorry forgot to say the Safari Drive for £5 is well worth the money and the guides give great information while going around.
Actually saw Grass Snakes 2 females very lively as the guides lifted a metal covering up also on the way round managed to see my first Painted Lady for a few years.

White winged goose

'White-winged goose'. Is there another name?

No Magpie goose? maybe you just didn't see them.

Also present are Emperor and Greenland Whitefront goose. (in Explorer pen). I think there are still Carolina duck (in NA pen). Certainly Black-necked swan is (in SA pen.)

Forgot the Emperor goose this was in the Artic exhibit on the Magpie Goose I didn't see them but on my last visit they were in the aviary they use to house the birds used for the displays.
On the White-winged goose sorry it should say Duck not Goose.
On the other birds if they were on show I didn't see them but I was under the impression they change the species on show on a regular rotation these days.
The White fronted goose were in two exhibits but the signage on both just stated White fronted goose no Greenland on signage.
All these birds may be off show and could be back on show at anytime.

Slimbridge has released a video showing their hand-rearing and releasing of nine blue tit chicks onto the reserve, as part of an effort to gain experience with the hand-rearing of small passerines in preparation for a breeding or head-starting project aimed at the much rarer willow tit, the fastest-declining resident bird in the UK.

The video can be watched here:

Nice. Hopefully other zoos take note and start working on more native bird conservation projects

ZTL lists Slimbridge as having all UK native amphibians. Are these all on show?

From memory I can't swear to all but certainly most are on show in the Toad Hall exhibit in the main visitor centre.
