ZSL London Zoo Sliverback Gorilla Now at London Zoo

Yeboah was in the main indoor display on Friday with the females where looking inside with intent which seemed too cause some excitiment as they were charging around all over the outside. The they where being mixed in with him in the afternoon though not Zaire. I have some photos of him but my laptop jumbled them all up and Yeboah and Zaire look very alike size wise.

Also they have took a strimmer too the back of the outside area which was finally starting too provide a little cover in the long grass, which is a dispointing.

Yeah i always thought that that area was lacking a decent amount of foliage.

Are the Colobus still mixed with them?

They have taken the over hanging tunnel down too that awful tree so I dont think so. I guess added Colobus too as well as a new Gorilla would be a bit of a nightmare I imagine it wont happen till the weathers warmer now anyways.

They are still there just in there own areas the Colobus are still at the entrance to the Gorilla kingdom by the F'ugly tree with there outside area and the Diana monkeys are at the exit too gorilla kingdom though both were indoors when I was looking around.

I suspect the reason for the removal of the overhead colobus tunnel is this:

Having spent so long trying to introduce them, I would be extremely surprised if they don't make adjustments over the winter to keep the group having access to the gorilla island. If they leave it too long once the male asserts himself, it will effectively take them back to where they started off, so I would expect to see this issue rectified sooner rather than later.

The Diana monkeys and White-naped mangabeys are not part of the main enclosure. One of the old sobell buildings has been retained at the end of the 'Gorilla Kingdom' zone, in which these species are found, along with the ageing remnants of the 'Bear Mountain' Grey/Tufted/'Hanuman' langur group which, incidentally, don't form part of the exhibit as their cage cannot be seen from the gallery; visitors have to go round the outside of these cages to see the langurs.

I don't think it is necessarily a bad thing for the plant cover to be cut back at the rear of the exhibit - its possible this was done to stop aggressive species such as grasses out-competing the other plants, given that many edible species were deliberately planted - besides strimming will stimulate good growth next year.

That must have too been fun to watch but I dare say they were easy to get back with use of the good old food bucket. How did they get out? Climb on top of the climbing tunnel and jump down?

Hopefully this might make them rethink that tree as well *HINT*

How is new male Yeboah?

On the ZSL website 'blog' there is an update (dated December 11th) on his progress. However I cannot access this, maybe someone else can and report what it says says on here...:)

I nearly spat me tea out then she said come see the gorilla's in a "natural green lush location!"

There interacting with all the females mainly Mjukuu and explains the differances between Yaboah and Bobby. Also says he has been with all the females and there will be more and more chances to see him.

They mentioned that hopefully they will all be together soon into the new year but its up too the gorillas it wont be forced.
