im making a fantasy zoo, but im stuck on the small mammal house, what some common species found in these buildings, because ive never been to a zoo with a small mammal house.

I would add Fruit Bats, Fennec Foxes, Small Cats (e.g. Sand Cat), Spiny Mice, Harvest Mice, Striped Mice, various Squirrels, Two-toed Sloths, Armadillos, Tamanduas, Skunks, Cuscuses, Mouse Deer, Agoutis... among others.

Some fairly common species, which have not been mentioned already, include sugar glider, common tree shrew, chinchilla, ground squirrel (eg souslik or chipmunk), short-eared elephant shrew, cavy (several species), fennec, potoroo and mouse lemur. If you want a rarity, in theory at least, consider a tarsier, kowari, linsang, quokka, springhaas or even a solenodon.

Are solenodons or quokka even kept anywhere anymore?

I'd suggest looking at species lists/zoo websites for those with small mammal houses as a resource.

For starters, Smithsonian's National Zoo has a small mammal house that's pretty good, with a rather large collection: Small Mammal House

i feel like i should have said this already, i apologize, the zoo would be located in the US, in new england.

The link includes those well-known small mammal, the Przewalski's horse and green aracari.
Yes, because the Smithsonian's National Zoo houses the horses in a paddock behind the Small Mammal House, while the green aracaris are in a mixed-species exhibit alongside some small mammals inside.

Another good one is Lincoln Park Zoo's Small Mammal-Reptile House: Regenstein Small Mammal-Reptile House | Lincoln Park Zoo
