Best isn't really great either, but the worst zoo in the Netherlands for me is Blanckendael-park (although the owner is called Blankendaal, but the name of the park sounds fancier). Everywhere the same green fences and cages, oryxes on concrete floors... I work quite often in Tuitjenhorn, so when I could leave early sometime last year, I decided to give the park another try several years after my first visit. Eventually, I didn't visit; the entrence fee is absurd and you have to pay to park your car.

I disagree with you, I don’t think Blanckendaell is the worst zoo in the Netherlands. I agree the owner is a strange guy, and there are a lot of ugly cages and fences, but the new savanna is very nice in my opinion, and it’s still a lot better than de paay. Also I don’t know how much the entrance fee is, since the day I visited it, it was free.

It's highly unlikely to even be the first birth in Europe this month :P it is a very common species in both private and public collections.

I must have been confused with another species then. According to ZTL however it seems that even though it is a common species it is bred only in a few institutions (might also just be ZTL being incorrect seen as it involves a lot of UK-zoos). Don't know the situation in private though.
 
Hi zoochatters,
in the middle of July I intend to visit this small collection for the first, mainly because of seeing the Lesser Grison ( if it is still alive ). I'll have to rely on public transfort, so I'd like to kindly ask any zoochatter, if the collection is accessible by public transport ( looking at 9292ov.nl it seems to me quite a challenge to get there ).

The only way I know is to take the train to one of the local stations (Geldermalsen or Beesd) and take the bus to Betuwestrand before walking around half an hour to get there. From Amsterdam Centraal the whole commute shouldn’t take more than a couple of hours to get there.
 
I just wanted to ask this question to the older ZCers who were able to go to this zoo years before: has it always been this bad?

My first visit was like 10 years ago and my feeling it is becoming more and more deplorable over the years.
