Small UK trip

Hi Stefan. I've not visited any of those Welsh places I've mentioned, and as Shorts had stated, probably some of those I put,are probably not worth the effort, even if u did pop up to Druid country in the north,so,other than Tilgate in the south of England, which I kind of personally like for a small zoo, don't listen to me,lol!

Personally, Welsh Mountain aside (which is okay but far from "must see" ore the best the UK has to offer) he'd be better off going back to Chester or spending an extra day in Snowdonia. All of the other places mentioned are so obscure and inconsequential I'd wager less than 10% of UK Zoochatters have bothered visiting (cue loads of posts telling me they've visited and how it was really worth the effort or tumbleweed:D).

As always, other opinions are available and each to their own but, Welsh Mountain Zoo aside, I could easily find fifty other zoos in the UK I'd rather spend my petrol and time on.

I agree.

Anglesey Sea Zoo is a nice visit, but probably not worth a long side trip unless there's something there you're really into. Neither Pili Palas nor Rhyl SeaQuarium are worth your time and money (sorry!), Welsh Mountain Zoo is nice though, a charming small collection maybe you can call into for a couple of hours in between Chester and Snowdonia.

WWT Slimbridge:
Positive:
- Great collection of waterfowl. For me as a flamingo geek, the Jameson and Andean flamingo were reason enough to go there. I spend in all more than 2 hours in front of the enclosure. Nice to see the Andean busy with their (foster) babies. The big group of greater flamingo was nice to observe. Also some nice duck and geese species.
- The amphibia collection was small, but had good variety in species.
- I liked the way it was set up. With big ponds mostly mixed species exhibits with most species out of the same region.
- I liked the combination with the bird hides to watch wild birds (saw cranes and a peregrine falcon praying on a sparrow) and some information how to make your garden more animal and water friendly.
- I didn't think I would, but in the end I spend my whole day in Slimbridge.
- Great shop

Negative:
- I don't like places were you can feed the animals. But I must say it was smartly done at this place. Starting with a big exhibit with lots of wild geese, ducks and swans who eat most of the food before the children get to the kept species further on in the centre.
- With the mixed walk-thru exhibits and the wild ducks, there is some mixing in species, that gave difficulties sometimes with sticking the right name on them.

WWT Llanelli:
Positive:
- Many beautiful bird hides (many more and in general better ones than Slimbridge)
- Spacious (mostly mixed) exhibits

Negative:
- Small collection of kept waterfowl. Nice for local people, but not to specially visit if you don't like to also spot wild bird with binoculars.
