Smithsonian National Zoo Smithsonian National Zoo News 2013

I would personally love to see if anyone had old maps of this zoo. I visited in 2006 but lost my map. At the time, they were in the middle of constructing Asia Trails. I can't really picture where some of the animals were previous to that, like black rhinos and bactrian camels.

I am not sure if it's from 2006, but it looks like it has most of the animals you're talking about: http://www.michellehenry.fr/zoomap.jpg

Draco, one of the male Cheetahs, hasn't been eating and has been losing weight. A complete examination was performed on September 16th, and it was found that not only was Draco thin, but had an ear infection. The animal care team is determining what is causing the ear infection and other symptoms. In the meantime veterinarians, husbandry, and nutrition team members are working closely together to encourage Draco to eat, and he’s on medications to help treat his symptoms. The animal care team will continue to monitor his status closely.
The sea lion pool on American Trail will be closed for cleaning beginning tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 21st until next Sunday, Sept. 29th.

I am hoping this gets sorted out because I have tickets to visit their Conservation Center in Front Royal, VA this Saturday!

I hope for everyone in the United States sake it gets sorted out quick. Sounds like a real problem for everyone.

Blospz I hope your get to go for your visit but at least if you dont they give you a refund or new tickets for another event there.

The SCBI is open for two days once a year on the first weekend of October. While I'm sure something will be sorted out, it's kind of a very big event to miss.

The Autumn Conservation Festival was cancelled. It looks like I will have to find another way to spend my Saturday.

Im sorry too Blospz! I hope its reschedualed because you obviously were so looking forward to it.

Fly on up to Toronto. Our zoo will be happy to keep you entertained. We have pandas too. And its the second last weekend to see our elephants before they got to PAWS. We have white lions. Lets see other selling features. Oh ya its in the Rouge Valley so with fall the leaves will be nice. Its no Autumn Conservation Festival but its the best we have. Lol.

I am sorry your missing out on something you really wanted to do and what seems like a very rare opportunity.

There is no reschedule date. The next one won't be until October 2014. Lets hope the Congress has no issues next year!

A new Andean Bear named Cisco from the Queens Zoo is now on exhibit. The zoo hopes to breed him with Billie Jean in 2014.

I kind of like Mulan for her and not because of disney. I like it because she is a little fighter that has suprised people. After so much heart ache and missed opportunities she came along and survived when her sister didnt. She should be named after a warrior. If not Mulan then Long Yun because she is a lucky dragon.

In other news the tiger twins will be out on display Nov 18. They have their swim test tomorrow. And naming rights have been auctioned off but no announcement has been made.
