Hi All,
Sorry to create a new thread,I am just trying to get some information about some of the Zoo's animals could any of you answer any of these questions?
1.The Zoo recently recieved a new female Sumatran Tiger 'Damai' and they plan to acquire a male for her,why wouldn't they want Guntur to breed with her?
2.Any plans on a new bull house or new females?
3.Any plans to move any of the Lion cubs?
4.Are they breeding the Cheetahs or Clouded leopards?
Any news would be great:D

1. They are acquiring a new male for Damai from Honolulu as they want to create a new bloodline and add more diversity to the Sumatran Tiger SSP. Guntur will be going overseas to a different zoo hopefully by the end of this year to be a part of another breeding program where he too can add genetic diversity. National Zoo has not had a new breeding pair of tigers in quite awhile, so this will be a nice change

2. For the bull house and new females, I'm guessing you mean elephants? If so, then it is hoped that they will acquire more females over time, I think the bull will be housed in the current barn as it was built very strong, but I could be wrong

3.Most likely the end of this year, we will see atleast one of the lion cubs be transferred to a different zoo, but next year for sure there will be lion cubs moved out. I highly doubt that any of the cubs will stay at National Zoo, as they are a fairly unrepresented bloodline here in America, so they have quite a bit of breeding potential

4. Cheetah breeding is mostly happening out at the Zoo's off-exhibit Front Royal, VA site (SBCI) as they have a very large cheetah program/area there. 2 cubs were born last December, and 5 more were just born in the past couple of weeks. As for the zoo, the female there is fairly old (11) so I doubt that they will breed her again. RE. Clouded leopards, most of the breeding for them is happening at SBCI as well, as they have much more facility/animal population too work with there. They have had 7 cubs since 2009, and more are expected. The zoo pair can breed, but have not done so successfully yet

Thanks Zg2000 there's not a lot of news about the animals at the Zoo only a few little bit of news so the news is brilliant:)
