We went to Colchester zoo on christmas eve, wanted to go to the late night opening the night before but decided it was not worth the risk!
The car park at Colchester was lethal, just pure ice from car to the door! Inside the zoo the staff had done a fantastic job on the paths and most were ok, even the slopes! You could only go as far as the elephant feeding the rest off 'Africa' was snowed in !!
UNFORTUNATELY most of the windows were covered in condensation so viewing was ok but photography was almost impossible (did take some but not brilliant!! )
Lovely to see the new amur leopard in a snow filled enclosure (some dodgy shots taken) but majorily disappointed at Igor and Annouska (Amur tigers) both being sound asleep!!Did get some dodgy shots of a grumpy Sasha (bengal tiger (white) ) looking very grubby against the snow
The wolf pack had got ridden of most of their snow! shame as they were all out and would have made for fantastic photo opportunity!
Rajang (orang) was sulking for some reason so only got one christmas kiss!! Tiga I have never seen so active and playful, he was climbing right round the top of the enclosure (indoor) and had his face showing the whole time (under a sack), certainly starting to come out of his shell!
Slid back to the car (literally) and were more fortunate than some were able to drive out of our parking spot! (we were further down the car park in the snow rather than ice) watched some idiot wheel spinning and burning his clutch out and a stuck four wheel drive (ha ha) there was plenty of car park attendants making sure people parked single file and were gritting as best they could (also pushing out cars!!)
Well done Colchester for keeping the inside at least ice free

and lovely to see lots of extended families enjoying christmas eve at the zoo
