ABQ BioPark Zoo Socorro doves imported by Albuquerque zoo

11 Socorro doves from Edinburgh and Paignton zoo have been transferred to the Albuquerque zoo in New Mexico, primarily to free up space in Europe and secondly to establish the species in the USA with an eye on releasing them back into their natural habitat on Socorro island in Mexico.

Is Albuquerque zoo (Rio Grande Zoo) somehow trying to become a bigger ex-situ conservation "player"? Soccoro doves now, Tasmanian devils next?
