Solar power development vs. desert protection

We need to follow the example of Germany, which has the largest solar panel array in the world. What was their (simple yet ingenious) solution for achieving this? Just line the banks of the audobahn (aka freeway) with solar panels. Brilliant!

German powergrid is instable and collapsing causing problems to their neighbours. Go, follow them :(

At least they´re not covering entire fields and meadows with solar panels, as they do in Czech Republic. ;)

I´ve heard that they also use old industrial areas, like closed factories etc. Thats the way to do it!

Additional question - do we know, how to recycle old solar panels, or will we have a big problem on our hands in few years?

That's the point - once a lobby gets its way and you can get money for doing something "eco" it could get out of reasonable bounds. Like corn being produced for fuel rather than food causing famines in poor countries. Having "solar panel fields" (the whole EU agropolicy is messed up anyway) is "just" wasting money and resources, closing nuclaer power plants because of the frequent bavarian tsunamis is going to cause problems on far bigger scale.

The whole "I know what is best for you" approach is always more or less dangerous in one way or another.

Too bad, that is the first I have heard of this. It seemed like such a good idea. BTW, I believe the second largest solar array (in one location) is here in southern Arizona. No controversy on that one that I know of.

It is more because of the wind farms though. There wouldn't be much problems if they wouldn't decide to replace nuclear power by sources depending on weather - after Fukushima accident. But powegrids are meant to receive rather consistent volume and can't handle sudden drops and rises well.
