Where are solenodons currently kept in captivity? I know Hispaniolan is kept at ZOODOM, are there any other holders?
The Dominican Republic, hence "zoo" plus "dom". They house (or housed) the native Hispaniolan Solenodons off-display.Where is ZOODOM? I dont know any of them in captivity.(But i'm not surprised if zoos inside their native range have some.)
I had heard they were on-display, but my source was a little iffy anyway. The Dominican Republic, hence "zoo" plus "dom". They house (or housed) the native Hispaniolan Solenodons off-display.
@birdsandbats Giant Eland has uploaded several photos of on-display solenodons to the gallery. Parque Zoologico Nactional, Dominican Republic.

ZooDom has had solenodons on display in the past, but the previous posts about them being on display currently are incorrect. The current enclosure is not yet open but will be the first on-display solenodons at the zoo for some time.Though apparently they are to go on display. To quote @GiantEland's description on the exhibit photo - "A behind the scenes sneak peak of the Hispaniolan mammals buildings due to open this summer."
I saw a Solenodon off show when I visited the zoo a few years ago. They are much commoner than used to be thought.
